Cause of Cold Sores
If you have ever suffered from a cold sore, then you know how painful and embarrassing they can be. We all want to have clear skin to face the world with, but this may not be as easy as it seems when you have a cold sore. So, in order to prevent cold sores, it would be a great idea to know the causes of cold sores to help you get rid of them. Once you know the cause you may be able to prevent cold sores from suddenly coming on. The root cause of all cold sores is the herpes simplex virus and there are eight known types of herpes and two of these are commonly known for causing cold sores. Another common cause of cold sores is stress. This can be triggered by any event in your life which causes you to feel negatively and can have a huge impact on your skin. Cold sores can also occur when you have a cold or even the flu Many people are prone to get these right after a bout of the flu and they may linger as long as the flu if you aren’t careful to try and get rid of them. Sunlight is good for your skin in the right moderation, but sunburn is not. Having too much exposure to the sun can impact a cold sore and can result in triggering one as well. Mental stress can also contribute to a cold sore and you should try to avoid a lot of it, not only for prevention of your cold sores but for well being also. So, if you are prone to get cold sores, you should take a look at your daily life and things you are doing. By making a few minor changes, you may be able to get fewer cold sores.

Best answer: It is the oral herpes virus-- but TONS of people get them, don't worry. My mom says once you get the virus, you have it for life, even when it's dormant. I have it, so I get them every so often. I never heard poor diet or sleep cause them, but I have heard that stress does! That's true for me. Temperature change is a big trigger for me, too. Extreme hot or cold can cause them. If they are bad, you probably can get a prescription for them, as you may know. As soon as I can feel one coming on (it will be sore, red, or raised a little under the skin), I take Ibuprophen, as per my mom. I also use Abreva constantly and wash the area and keep it clean. Medication over-the-counter doesn't seem to heal much faster for me, however, I think the virus just has to run it's course. |

Well... I had my first kiss today and I'm kind of worried because a few of my friends get cold sores on their lips. And a few of them got cold sores from kissing someone else. okay, yes there was tongue. So I'm wondering if I'll get a cold sore. Oh, and I've never seen this guy have a cold sore before.

Best answer: kissing does not cause cold sores, but it is a way of transfering them. cold sores are highly contagious. if he does not have any, then you are not likly to get any. but if he does not get cold sores that doesnt mean he cannot give you one. if he kisses someone that has a cold sore then the germs get in his mouth. assuming he is immune to them, because you have never seen him with them, then these germs will not effect him. but if he kisses someone with one, then kisses you, you could get one. but like i said kissing does not cause cold sores it just passes it on. i hope that helps |

Best answer: I have 3 on my top lip! lol I put some ZOVIRAX on them as soon as they appeared, and the cream has already stopped them from getting worse. They are drying up and don't look as bad now. Unfortunately you can only get Zovirax on prescription here in the US.( I made sure I brought some over from UK.) So for a quick fix if you can't get to a doc, maybe try one of the other creams suggested above. When I was younger I used to put after shave/perfume on them, they seemed to dry up quick but I did stink for a while LOL |
